Ford Specifications

S431 / WSD-M21P19-A31 FASTENERS

Salt Spray • 408 Hours | Coating System • SermaGard SG-902 basecoat plus optional lubricant, SL-1127

Ford’s Worldwide Fastener Standard, WX 100, presents the performance requirements of S431 and references WSD-M21P19-A31. This aluminum, ceramic finish is dip/spin-applied as SG-902 in combination with SermaLube SL-1127, a dry-to-the-touch wax, for externally driven bolts or screws primarily for high-temperature engine and transmission applications. It has a coefficient of friction, µ = 0.15 +/- 0.03 per WZ101. Its maximum service temperature is 650º C and it can withstand thermal spikes to 750º C.

S431 / WSD-M21P19-A31 FOR EXHAUST AND UNDERBODY COMPONENTS

Salt Spray • 408 Hours | Coating System • SermaGard SG-902 or SG-1105 basecoat with burnish

Ford’s Worldwide Fastener Standard, WX 100, presents the performance requirements of S431 and references WSD-M21P19-A31. This aluminum, ceramic basecoat can be dip/spin-applied as SG-902 or spray-applied as SG-1105 with burnish. It is typically used for exhaust hanger rods and flanges, heat shields, body cushion and engine mounts, suspension bushings and components subject to dissimilar metal corrosion. Key properties are its outstanding adhesion, conductivity and ductility and its ability to withstand corrosion in high-temperature environments. Its maximum service temperature is 650º C and it can withstand thermal spikes to 750º C.

WSS-M2P170-B7 For POLISHED EXHAUST TAILPIPE TIPS

Cyclic • Ford L467 – 9 Weeks | Coating System • SermaGard / NitroPlate® basecoat with polish

This aluminum, ceramic basecoat is spray-applied and polished to a mirror-like finish. It is typically used for highly visible, cold-end exhaust components such as decorative exhaust tailpipe tips where superior corrosion performance is required in concert with operating temperatures that do not exceed 450º C. In addition to a weekly 315º C heat soak with ice water bath quench and L467 cyclic requirement of 9 weeks, the coating meets the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) condensate resistance requirements and has an ASTM D3170 Chip Resistance rating of 10A (no chips).

WSS-M2P170-B7 FOR BLACK EXHAUST COMPONENTS

Cyclic • Ford L467 – 9 Weeks | Coating System • NitroPlate® black ceramic barrier coating

This black ceramic barrier coating can be dip/spin- or spray-applied. It can be used for highly visible, cold-end exhaust components such as decorative exhaust tailpipe tips or hot-end exhaust manifolds, and hanger rods where operating temperatures can range from 450º C to 1000º C. It is typically applied over 304SS or 409SS Ni-Mod base metals.

S444 (SILVER) & S445 (BLACK) / WSS-M21P45-A1 AND A2 FOR SPRING BAND HOSE CLAMPS

Cyclic • Ford L467 – 4 Weeks | Coating System • Rubicon Coating’s RoBo 2264 basecoat plus RoBo 1054 (Silver) or RoBo 1055 (black) topcoat

Ford’s Worldwide Fastener Standard, WX 100, presents the performance requirements of S444 and S445 and references WSS-M21P45-A1 and A2. A unique finish developed specifically for constant tension hose clamps, Rubicon Coatings’ RoBo® eliminates the potential for stress corrosion cracking due to exposure to oxidizers while meeting the ductility and adhesion requirements necessary for pre-opened, pre-positioned (POPP) hose clamp applications.

S444H (SILVER) AND S445H (BLACK) / WSS-M21P45-A3 AND A4 FOR SPRING BAND HOSE CLAMPS

Cyclic • Ford L467 – 9 Weeks  | Coating System • Servitech basecoat plus NGC-1695 (silver) or NGC-1694 (black) topcoat

Ford’s Worldwide Fastener Standard, WX 100, presents the high (H) performance requirements of S444H and S445H and references WSS-M21P45-A3 and A4. These coating combinations provide superior corrosion performance while meeting the ductility and adhesion requirements necessary for pre-opened, pre-positioned (POPP) hose clamp applications.
